About & FAQ
What is this site?
Name It First is a small game shared by everyone who visits. You propose a name. If nobody on this site has ever proposed exactly that name, you win and the name is recorded with you as its first proposer. If someone already proposed it, you lose this round and see how many times the name has been proposed.
What counts as the same name?
Names are compared exactly as typed. “Alice”, “alice” and “ALICE” are three different names, and so are full-width and half-width characters. Only spaces before and after the name are ignored. Names can be up to 50 characters long.
Why didn’t my count go up when I tried again?
Each device is counted once per name. If you propose the same name again from the same browser, the count stays the same. This keeps the numbers honest: a count shows how many different devices proposed the name.
What is the trophy?
The trophy counts the names you proposed first. It starts as a bronze cup and grows grander as you claim more: silver at 3 names, gold at 5, then jewels, laurels, wings and a crown, up to a legendary rainbow trophy at 100 names.
Do I need an account?
No. When you propose your first name, the site creates an anonymous guest identity in your browser. It is only used to recognise your device. Clearing your browser data or using a private window gives you a new guest identity.
Can I play in my language?
Yes. The site is available in English, Hindi, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Japanese, Chinese, Arabic, Indonesian and Russian. It follows your browser’s language, and you can switch at the top right of the page.
Is there anything I shouldn’t type?
Please don’t enter personal information such as your full name, address or phone number, and don’t enter offensive content. Names are stored on our server.
